Run-D.M.C. Sues Walmart, Amazon, Others For $50-Million
(Undated) — One of the founders of the rap group Run-D.M.C. is suing Walmart, Amazon, Jet.com and some of the retailers’ partners for 50-million dollars. Darryl “D.M.C” McDaniels, who owns the Run-D.M.C. brand, accuses the retail giants of trademark infringement. The suit filed in Manhattan federal court argues that the retailers’ sale and distribution of merchandise branded with the Run-D.M.C. name without permission misleads buyers into thinking products are officially endorsed by the group. The products include glasses, hats, t-shirts, and wallets that use the group’s name or description or carry the group’s logo.
