The Mattoon Fire Department is flow-testing and painting fire hydrants. Hydrants will be flowed between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.. During these times, any landscaping within three feet of the hydrant that obstructs the view or operation of the hydrant will be trimmed or removed. Water may become discolored, but it completely safe to drink. However, if you plan on doing laundry, let it run for a couple of minutes until it clears up.
