The death toll from Hurricane Michael is expected to rise this weekend as search crews look for survivors in the wreckage. The Category 4 hurricane left a trail of destruction in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia, killing 18 people along the way. Hardest hit were the coastal communities of the Florida Panhandle, where rescue teams are using canines, drones and heavy equipment to look for survivors trapped under debris. Communities like Mexico Beach, Port St. Joe and Panama City were devastated by 150-mile-an-hour winds and walls of surging seawater. Hundreds of people who were in the hurricane’s path are still unaccounted for. The office of Florida Governor Rick Scott says over 17-hundred search-and-rescue workers have been deployed. Rescue efforts are being hampered by power outages, telephone outages and blocked roads. Over 900-thousand customers in the Southeast are still without power.
