Rep. Chris Miller to run for re-election as State Representative in the 110th District
Oakland, IL – State Representative Chris Miller (R-Oakland) says there is too much unfinished business in Springfield and is today formally announcing his intention to run for re-election.
“The need for reform in Illinois government is greater than ever,” Miller said. “There is a growing dissatisfaction with state government because too often our legislative leaders are listening more to politically connected insiders than they are to the people of this great state. I know it is an uphill battle and I know the challenges we have in getting real reforms passed into law, but I am not one to back down from a challenge. I am running again to keep the pressure on Springfield to finally put politics aside and put the needs of people of Illinois first.”
Rep. Miller has been a strong opponent to tax increases. He says he was disappointed to see so many Republicans vote with the Democrats to raise taxes on motor fuel, parking, vehicle trade-ins, video gaming and cigarettes -more than $45 billion in tax increases.
“I was not surprised to see the Democrat majorities in the House and the Senate support the Governor’s tax increases, but I am amazed that so many of my Republican colleagues voted for these tax hikes,” Miller said. “I thought the Republican party was supposed to be for fiscal responsibility and lower taxes. That is the party I have been a part of my whole life.”
Miller said he will not be deterred and will continue to voice his opposition to tax increases.
“I will continue to speak my mind and will continue to oppose tax increases,” Miller said. “The vast majority of my constituents are furious about the tax increases approved this spring. I hear from them every day and the message I give to them is that I will stand with them by opposing tax increases. I will be spending time during the campaign working to defeat the Governor proposed progressive income tax increase. Illinois families are taxed enough.”
Miller is pro-life, pro-2nd Amendment and he is an advocate for business reforms such as workers’ compensation reform and regulatory reform to help encourage more investment into the Illinois economy.
“If we want to grow our economy, we need to look at what has worked in other states and duplicate that success here,” Miller said. “States like Indiana and Wisconsin have worked hard to create a business-friendly climate and they are getting results. Here in Illinois instead of creating a level playing field for all businesses – we craft bailouts and insider deals for politically connected companies and the end result is stagnate economic growth. Only when we take the steps we need to take to create a business-friendly environment in Illinois will we get Illinois back on track.”
Chris Miller lives in Oakland, Illinois, where he was born and raised. After graduating from Oakland High School, Chris attended Eureka College and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in education. Later, Chris attended Lakeland College and received an Associate’s Degree in agriculture. He is a third-generation farmer and raises Angus cattle. Chris and his wife, Mary, have been married for thirty-nine years. They have seven children and sixteen grandchildren.
Miller is seeking a second term as State Representative in the 110th District. The Primary Election is March 17, 2020.
