For Immediate Release – November 17, 2020
The Rotary Food drive has been an extremely important event for our community over the last 25 years. We raise $10,000 plus 20,000 pounds of food each year. The food is split equally between the Salvation Army and the Mattoon Community Food Center.
After much contemplation and prayer, and discussion with the Rotary President and board, we feel it is safest for our volunteers and community to cancel the food drive. This is with deep regret but we are under circumstances we have never seen before.
So, I really need your help. My understanding for the wholesale price of food, that the food bank can purchase from, would equal about $10,000. This is what they are losing from this food drive. Please do what you can to help this very important mission, especially in a year like this. We don’t want our local community to suffer. We want our local children to have meals each day.
We named this years food drive the Janet McAlister Clark memorial food drive. I am sure she has tears for us with this and I am sure she is also praying for all of our support.
Every dollar matters, so if it is $1, $50, $1000 it is all appreciated. You can give with the Facebook post, send in a donation to
Rotary Club of Mattoon made payable to Mattoon Rotary Charities or send to the food bank or Salvation Army.
