Illinois to Host Cake-Cutting Ceremony Celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the United States Marine Corps
Springfield, IL – Illinois will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Marine Corps on Monday, November 10, with a ceremonial cake-cutting and program. The annual birthday cutting ceremony, steeped in history and tradition, honors the sacrifices and achievements of Marines.
“We look forward to honoring Marines across Illinois with the traditional cake-cutting ceremony commemorating the 250th anniversary of its founding,” said Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs Director Terry Prince. “This is a special recognition of the Marines’ core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment, which they demonstrate in service to our nation.”
Illinois partnered with the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, which has been leading a nationwide effort to ensure each state hosts a cake-cutting ceremony.
The custom-made cake will be created by Turano Bakery Company, a local member of the American Bakers Association, which is donating cakes for ceremonies in every state.
All Illinois Marines, past and present, have been invited to attend the ceremony.
