Visit Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site to celebrate Lincoln’s birthday
SPRINGFIELD – Celebrate the birthday of President Abraham Lincoln from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14 at Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site in Lerna.
Author Stacy Lynn will discuss and sign her book, “Loving Lincoln: A Personal History of the Women Who Shaped Lincoln’s Life and Legacy,” beginning at 2 p.m. in the visitor center auditorium. Additionally, light refreshments and children’s craft activities will be available in the visitor center lobby.
In “Loving Lincoln,” Lynn offers a fresh perspective on the 16th president by examining the influence of women throughout his life. The book highlights Lincoln’s kindness, sensitivity and moral center while exploring how women helped shape his legacy. Blending history, biography and personal reflection, Lynn emphasizes the value of emotional connection in understanding historical figures.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the Goosenest Prairie Gift Shop, operated by volunteers with the Lincoln Log Cabin Foundation.
Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site, a gateway site for the Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area, preserves the 1840s home of Lincoln’s father and stepmother, Thomas and Sarah Bush Lincoln. The site, located eight miles south of Charleston and 14 miles southeast of Mattoon, is operated by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
