(White Plains, NY) — Hip-hop legend DMX is dead at the age of 50. The family of DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, confirmed he died today after being on life support for the past couple of days. Reports say he died of complications from a drug overdose. He leaves behind 15 children. He shares four children with his ex-wife Tashera Simmons and the other eleven kids are from a handful of different relationships.
DMX was born in Mount Vernon, New York, on December 18th, 1970. He had a troubled childhood and spent a great deal of time living in group homes and had several run-ins with the law. Critics say Hip-hop saved DMX as he rose to fame in the ’90s. He was nominated for a Grammy three times and won two American Music Awards. He’s best known for his singles “Ruff Ryders Anthem” and “Party Up (Up In Here).” His first five albums, “It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot,” “Flesh of My Flesh, Blood Of My Blood,” “And Then There Was X,” “The Great Depression,” and “Grand Champ,” all reached number one in America and went platinum. Aside from his hip hop career, he starred in a number of movies, including “Exit Wounds” with Steven Segal and “Cradle 2 The Grave” with Jet Li.
