The Guinness Book of World Records announced a new record for World’s Oldest Man on Friday. His name is Israel Kristal, and he’s 112. Technically, 112 years and 181 days.
He was born in Poland in 1903, and his family owned a candy factory. He’s also a Holocaust survivor.
He was sent to Auschwitz in 1943, got liberated in 1945, and went back to Poland to rebuild the candy factory after it got destroyed. He was in the news about two years ago when he was named the oldest living Holocaust survivor, at 110.
Sadly, he was the only person in his extended family who survived the Holocaust. But he remarried in 1947, and he’s lived in Israel since 1950.
He credits God for his long life, and his daughter says he’s also a huge optimist who’s always happy, values what he has, and does everything in moderation.
The world’s oldest PERSON is still a woman in Alabama named Susannah Jones. She turns 117 in July.
