The Scripps National Spelling Bee finals were held recently and Google decided it was a good occasion to figure out the words that this country CAN’T spell.
They analyzed millions of searches to figure out the word that people in every state have the most trouble spelling. And here are five highlights …
1. More states struggle with “desert” than any other word … it only has one “s.” If you add a second one, it becomes dessert. It’s the most misspelled word in California, Connecticut, Idaho, and INDIANA!
2. People in Alaska have trouble spelling “Hawaii.”
3. People in Arizona and New Hampshire have trouble spelling “diarrhea.”
4. People in Arkansas and Utah have trouble spelling “leprechaun.” Does that word come up in Arkansas or Utah that often?
5. And it’s debatable, but the state that should be the most embarrassed may be Ohio … where the word people struggle with is “banana.” How do you even mess up that one?
