Eastern Illinois Foodbank Receives $25,000 Gift from Earthrise Energy to Help Feed Families in Coles County
URBANA, IL (July 24, 2025) — Eastern Illinois Foodbank (EIF) today announced a $25,000 gift from Earthrise Energy, to support the Foodbank’s efforts to alleviate hunger in Coles County. Funds will be used to purchase and distribute food to those facing hunger through EIF’s Foodmobile program.
As the sustained increase in people seeking food assistance persists, community support is vital to EIF’s mission. “This generous gift from Earthrise Energy empowers us to bring more healthy groceries to our neighbors in Coles County, where we consistently see the highest rate of hunger in our service area,” said Foodbank President & CEO Kelly Daly. “Community support like this is what makes it possible for us to meet a historic need and fulfill our mission of alleviating hunger and nourishing stronger communities.”
At any given time, more than 143,000 people in eastern Illinois don’t know where they will get their next meal, with at least 1 in 6 Coles County residents experiencing food insecurity. Eastern Illinois Foodbank works to alleviate hunger as the primary food source to a network of food pantries, agencies, and programs in a 21-county service area. In addition to distributing donated and discounted food throughout this network, the Foodbank provides grocery items on their Foodmobile, which visits nearly 100 rural and underserved communities each month.
“Earthrise Energy is proud to support the Eastern Illinois Foodbank in their efforts to increase access to nutritious food,” said Talya Tavor, Director of Community Engagement at Earthrise Energy. “With the help of this RISE Grant, the Foodbank can enhance its Foodmobile program and reach even more communities in need.”
