If Washington D.C. wins the bid to become the 51st state of the United States, it may be given a new name.
The Mayor of Washington D.C. has pushed for the bid to become a state for years and has gained momentum with recent endorsements by Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton.
Voters approved the name ‘New Columbia’ in the 1982 statehood talks.
Whether or not the name will be used this time around will have to wait for a vote in the fall according to the Washington Post.
