There’s a 17-year-old girl in Minnesota named Katie Coopet, who’s planning to go into medicine when she gets to college. Which sounds like a good fit, because check this out . . .
She’s been working as a lifeguard and a cashier this summer at a waterpark about 130 miles northwest of Minneapolis. She was supposed to be working the snack bar near the pool last Monday while four other lifeguards were on duty.
But one of them started having a SEIZURE, and the other lifeguards panicked. So Katie called 911, and stayed with the girl until paramedics got there. Luckily she wasn’t in the water when it happened, so she’s okay.
Then the manager asked Katie to fill in, so she went to her car to get her bathing suit, and noticed one of the OTHER lifeguards didn’t look good either. It turned out HE was having a seizure TOO.
Apparently it was just a weird coincidence, and the seizures weren’t related. And the second lifeguard wasn’t having a full-blown seizure at that point. But he’s had them before, and Katie knew the warning signs.
So she sat him down . . . took his pulse . . . told her manager to get a cold compress . . . and called 911 again. They thought she was calling back about the same lifeguard, so she had to explain it was ANOTHER emergency . . . stayed with him until they got there . . . and he’s okay too. (Grand Forks Herald)
