New at AMC Showplace 10 Theaters in Mattoon this weekend:
- “Deepwater Horizon“ (PG-13)
Mark Wahlberg stars in this movie about the 2010 explosion on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. It killed a dozen crewmen and caused one of the largest oil spills in U.S. waters. Kate Hudson plays his wife.
It’s directed by his “Lone Survivor” director Peter Berg. The rest of the cast includes Kurt Russell, John Malkovich, Gina Rodriguez from “Jane the Virgin”, and Dylan O’Brien from “The Maze Runner” movies.
- “Masterminds“ (PG-13)
Zach Galifianakis plays an armored truck driver who’s tempted into helping steal $17 million after Kristen Wiig becomes his new partner. Owen Wilsonsets the heist up, then double crosses him and sets hitman Jason Sudeikis on his trail.
“SNL’s” Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones are also in it. And it’s directed by “Napoleon Dynamite” director Jared Hess.
- Tim Burton’s “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children“ (PG-13)
Asa Butterfield from “Ender’s Game” escapes to a mysterious island after his grandfather dies, and then he realizes all the stories his grandpa told him are true.
There he meets Eva Green, a shapeshifting headmistress who runs a home for children with unusual abilities. And she tells him that it’s his job to protect them from the undead creatures that are hunting the children. They’re led by Samuel L. Jackson.
