Lake Shelbyville – Big things are coming to Lithia Springs Recreation Area. The Lake Shelbyville project office has received special funding to replace and upgrade water lines in the Lithia Springs campground. Roads, sewer lines, and campsite upgrades will also be completed in coordination with the water line replacement project. In order to better restore the area to its natural beauty, all heavy construction will be completed prior to reopening the campground for business.
Construction and rehabilitation is set for the winter, spring, and early summer months of 2017. The park will boast 25 new full hookup sites along with the widening of many existing campsites and turn-arounds. Old, existing water lines will be upgraded to current American Water Works Association and Federal Safe Drinking Water Act standards. Along with this update, more community water hydrants will be seen throughout the park. Beach users will enjoy a new outdoor shower, installed closer to the beach area for easy access. Areas with drainage problems and erosion concerns are also on the agenda for improving.
Due to these park upgrades, the Lake Shelbyville staff predicts delays in opening the campground for 2017. Progress updates and opening dates will be announced as progress permits. Please continue to check with the Project Office and Project Website for updates throughout the spring and early summer. We would like to extend our apologies to the visiting public whom are affected by the delays. Early season camping at Lake Shelbyville will be offered at Opossum Creek Campground beginning on April 20 to offset the delayed opening of Lithia Springs.
