A 36-year-old woman in San Diego named Vanessa Prado went into labor last Thursday morning, about a month before she was due. And she couldn’t make it to the hospital in time.
Her boyfriend started driving her. But they had to pull over in a post office parking lot a few blocks from their house and call 911.
Luckily, two cops named Matt Enderlin and Eric Hustad were close by, and showed up in less than two minutes.
Apparently the boyfriend let them take over once they got there. Matt delivered the baby while Eric held Vanessa’s hand. And she gave birth to a healthy six-pound baby boy named Pierce.
But here’s the cool part. She decided to pay tribute to them by making his middle name “Merick” . . . a combination of their names, Matt and Eric.
The two of them have been partners for about eight years, and say this was definitely one of the most memorable shifts they’ve ever had. (NBC San Diego / WCTI)
