“Kevin Can Wait” is heading in a “different direction” for Season Two . . . and apparently, it’s all about making it more like KEVIN JAMES’ previous show, “The King of Queens”.
The show is dumping Kevin’s on-screen wife Erinn Hayes. She Tweeted, quote, “It’s true, I’ve been let go from the show. It’s very sad, I had a great experience.”
They’re replacing her with LEAH REMINI, who played Kevin’s wife on “King of Queens”. She did a guest spot on the show last month, appearing in the final two episodes of the season. She played an undercover cop, who was Kevin’s former partner on the police force.
Now, she’s being bumped to a series regular. She’ll continue the role she was playing . . . but there aren’t any details on how the show will handle the shake-up.
The “Kevin Can Wait” cast includes Kevin’s real-life brother, Gary Valentine, who played cousin Danny on “King of Queens”.
Supposedly, the decision wasn’t about ratings or Erinn being a bad fit . . . the producers just wanted to mix things up. “Kevin Can Wait” was the #1 new comedy in total viewers last season, averaging 9.19 million per episode.
