The Illinois State police will be conducting Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols starting in June.
The Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols will take place in Coles County, and will focus on safety belt and child safety seat laws. Illinois requires all passengers to be buckled in, front and back in a vehicle. Safety belts are estimated to save nearly 14,000 lives each year and half of vehicle occupants killed in traffic accidents were not properly buckled in. The objective of the patrols is to increase occupant restraint compliance through education, child seat inspections, and enforcement.
