Back in February of 2016, a two-year-old girl named Eden Carlson fell into her family’s pool in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
She was underwater for 15 minutes before she was rescued, and she suffered significant brain damage. It looked like it would be completely irreparable.
But a doctor named Paul Harch from Louisiana State University had an experimental treatment that MIGHT just give her a chance to recover.
It involved putting her in a sealed hyperbaric chamber and giving her high-pressure doses of oxygen that MIGHT stimulate her brain to start repairing itself.
And . . . it worked. Within a few months, she’d regained her ability to walk and speak . . . and she was doing both even BETTER than before her accident. And now, more than a year out, Harch says her brain damage has officially been reversed.
This is the first time this treatment has been attempted or that it’s worked, so Harch says there’s no guarantee it’s THE answer to brain damage . . . but it’s still incredible. (Medical Gas Research / New York Daily News)
