The Coles County Arts Council (CCAC) invites families to participate in the annual Kids Arts in the Park on Saturday September 9, from 9:30 am – Noon. The event will take place at the east and south pavilions at Morton Park, and families are asked to sign in at the registration tent prior to participating. Registration will begin at 9:15.
Kids Arts in the Park is an opportunity for children and their families to enjoy a variety of creative experiences, including visual arts, performing arts, literature, and music. In the area of Visual Arts, kids can create “make-and-take” projects using a variety of art materials-enabling them to learn new and exciting art techniques in relaxed, small group settings. Performing Arts activities, such as dance and music, provide opportunities to explore sound and movement. Story Time allows families the opportunity to savor the written word.
The projects and activities are taught by area artists, art instructors, and EIU Art Education students. Most activities are free of charge, with the exception of the t-shirt and button making projects that require a small fee, as well as t-shirts provided by the families themselves. Those funds go to support the EIU Art Education Student Chapter.
Parents, guardians are naturally asked to supervise their children, but they–along with grandparents, siblings, and friends-are also invited to join in the fun! For more information, please e-mail the CCAC Visual Arts chair, Heather Siegel, at hlcuria@eiu.edu.
