A lot of people in Puerto Rico lost their homes in Hurricane Maria last month. But one person who’s been helping them was ALREADY homeless . . .
19-year-old Christopher Rodriguez has been living on the streets in Puerto Rico and sleeping in an alley since he was 16. It’s not clear where his family is, but he rode out the hurricane in a taxi terminal, and says being alone was the scariest part.
After the storm passed, he reached out to a group that was helping victims. But not because he wanted help . . . he wanted to help OTHER people.
For the past month, he’s been helping a group of volunteers that’s trying to make sure people in more remote areas have supplies.
He puts together care packages, and then carries them across a river to hand them out. He says he feels like it’s given him a purpose in life, and he’s even making friends.
Last Friday was his 19th birthday, so some of the other volunteers took him out for a big birthday dinner.
He says it felt like he was spending his birthday with his FAMILY again, which is something he hasn’t done in a long time. (CNN)
