(Circleville, OH) — A World War Two veteran is getting his high school diploma, 74 years after the fact. Robert Lockard received his high school diploma from Circleville High School in Ohio on Sunday. Lockard said he was having a tough time back in school in 1944, when he walked out of the classroom and decided to join the Civilian Conservation Corps as a medic. He then became a chef at a fancy restaurant in Nevada. Lockard was then drafted into the Army as rifleman in the infantry. Lockard wiped tears from his eyes during the Sunday ceremony, saying, “It means everything to me…all these years I’ve thought about this.”
