A science fiction series that didn’t exactly have a successful first run is about to receive the TV academy’s 2018 Governors Award. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences plans to honor “Star Trek” during Saturday’s Creative Arts Emmy Award ceremonies at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The award will be presented to CBS Television Studios, who owns the “Star Trek” franchise. The show first produced by Desilu ran for only three seasons on NBC starting in 1966. “Star Trek” would eventually spawn over 700 TV episodes and 13 big-screen motion pictures. Desilu president Lucille Ball green-lighted the series that she first thought was about aspiring actors trying to make it as stars in Hollywood.
