MATTOON – A series of activities planned for Friday launches the Makers Space area on the second floor young adult/children’s area of the Mattoon Public Library.
Four different activities are planned through the day to appeal to various ages. The first activity is a sensory hour from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a lego hour from 11 a.m. to noon. The library has legos sized for all ages.
In the afternoon, button pressing is from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in which youth make their own button. The final activity is duct tape crafts from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
“For several months our staff has been researching and planning to add activities like these to our programming menu,” said library director Carl Walworth. “We’ve also been making the program room physically more appealing and conducive to maker and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) activities. We are hopeful to have a good turnout on Friday and then build on this concept.”
