A woman faces multiple charges following an accident in Lawrence County last night. According to the Illinois State Police, two Lawrenceville Police officers were on a traffic stop and were returning to their cars when the crash happened. 39-year-old Erika Boger, of St. Francisville, Illinois was texting and ran off the road, striking the rear of one of the squad cars which was parked on the right shoulder with its emergency lights activated. That car was forced into the second police car. Officer Kody Waggoner was outside his squad car and was struck during the crash, and Officer Byron Middlecoat was sitting in his patrol car when the crash occurred. Each was treated and released from the hospital. Boger was charged with DUI alcohol, Scott’s Law, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, illegal transportation of alcohol by driver, and texting while driving.
