“The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part” won the box office this weekend, earning $34.4 million . . . which is down quite a bit from the early projections of $50 million to $55 million.
The Taraji P. Henson movie “What Men Want” debuted in second with $19 million.
Liam Neeson’s new movie “Cold Pursuit” also struggled . . . possibly because of the controversy over his racial commentslast week. “Cold Pursuit” cost $60 million to make . . . and it’s Liam’s worst opening since 2010.
That said, the movie wasn’t supposed to be a blockbuster like his “Taken” movies. In fact, some projections from BEFORE the controversy suggested it would make around $7 million to $10 million in its first week, which it actually surpassed.
