California Lawmakers Pass Bill Allowing College Players Endorsements
(Sacramento, CA) — California lawmakers are moving a bill that would allow college athletes to sign and get paid for endorsement deals. The State Assembly on Monday passed the Fair Pay To Play Act by a vote of 72-0. The California Senate passed a version of the bill by an overwhelming majority in May. The bill doesn’t involve schools paying athletes directly. It would prohibit colleges and universities in California from revoking scholarships or scholarship eligibility from athletes who profit off their own name, image, or likeness. Lawmakers could vote as soon as today on reconciling differences between the Assembly and Senate bills.
