Late TD Lifts 49ers Past Steelers
(Santa Clara, CA) — Jimmy Garoppolo found Dante Pettis for the go-ahead touchdown with 1:15 left to play as the 49ers slipped past the Steelers 24-20 in Santa Clara. “Jimmy G” overcame two interceptions and a lost fumble to help the Niners open the year at 3-and-0. San Francisco won despite committing five turnovers. Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert combined for 147 yards on the ground, and Jeff Wilson Jr. rushed for two scores for the second straight week. Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph passed for 174 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in his first career start in place of the injured Ben Roethlisberger. JuJu Smith-Schuster and Diontae Johnson hauled in touchdown catches for 0-and-3 Pittsburgh. New Steelers cornerback Minkah Fitzpatrick intercepted a pass and forced a fumble less than a week after being acquired from Miami for a first-round pick.
