Mother Nature put a stop to the Daytona 500 on Sunday, February 16 with rain in Florida. NASCAR postponed the race to 3pm (central) on Monday, February 17.
Denny Hamlin won for the second year in a row. It is also his third Daytona 500 win in five years. However, the celebration was cut short after a horrific crash on the last lap left Ryan Newman’s car upside down and another car hitting the Newman’s drivers side. NASCAR released a statement a few hours after the race ended that Newman was in serious condition, but his injuries were non-life threatening.
