New at AMC Showplace 10 Theaters in Mattoon this weekend:
- “Blair Witch“ (R)
In this direct sequel to “The Blair Witch Project”, Heather’s little brother is determined to find out what happened to her 17 years ago.
He convinces a group of his college friends into entering the forest, and one of them brings along a bunch of high tech equipment to turn the trip into a documentary. . . including cameras mounted on drones and headgear.
The brother is played by James Allen McCune . . . who you may remember as Matty Baker on “Shameless”. Valorie Curry from “The Following” is also in it. She plays one of the locals who joins up with them.
- “Bridget Jones’s Baby“ (R)
Renee Zellweger is back for a third turn as Bridget Jones. After breaking up with Colin Firth, she hooks up with Patrick Dempsey. When she finds out she’s pregnant, she has no idea who the father is, and both guys are forced to compete for her affection.
- “Snowden“ (R)
Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Edward Snowden, the analyst who exposed the NSA’s illegal surveillance activities, and then became an international fugitive after being branded a spy and a traitor. It’s directed by Oliver Stone. And includes a cameo by Snowden.
Shailene Woodley plays his girlfriend. Zachary Quinto and Tom Wilkinson are the journalists he gives his story to, and Melissa Leo plays Laura Poitras, the chick who won an Oscar for her Snowden documentary “Citizenfour”.
