How to Split a Restaurant Bill in Six Different Situations

BusinessInsider.com posted a guide for how to split the bill at a restaurant in a bunch of different situations.  Here are six different scenarios, and how they say you should handle them.  See if you agree . . .

1. If you’re on a first date, whoever ASKED for the date should pay, regardless of gender.  Then take turns after that, or just agree to split it.

2. If it’s a business dinner, again the person who asked should pay.  Or if they’re your CLIENT, you should always pay.

3. If it’s a friend, just split it.  But it’s okay to ask for separate checks if theirs cost more.

4. If it’s a co-worker, just get separate checks and pay for what you ordered.

5. If it’s a group dinner for someone’s birthday, the person who’s celebrating a birthday shouldn’t pay at all.  Everyone else should throw in a little extra to cover their meal unless THEY organized it, and picked a really expensive place.

6. If it’s with a family member, use your best judgment.  Parents, grandparents, and other relatives who are older might offer to pay for the whole thing.  But don’t expect them to.  If it’s a sibling, you’ll probably just want to split it.

And if it’s your in-laws, go in with a plan.  If they’re visiting from out of town, YOU might want to pay.  Especially if you’re trying to impress them.  (Business Insider)
