Little kids are so terrible at hide-and-seek, you just have to stand there and PRETEND you can’t find them. Now scientists think they’ve figured out why they’re so bad at it…
Researchers at the University of Southern California recently had kids between the ages of two and four sit across from an adult who had their eyes closed.
The kids had their eyes open…but when they were asked if they could see the adult, they said NO, even though they were staring right at them.
Apparently it has to do with something called bidirectionality, where their underdeveloped brains think you can’t “see” each other unless you’re making eye contact.
And the weird part is it doesn’t just apply to vision…
The kids also said they couldn’t HEAR the adult when the adult’s ears were covered. And they didn’t think they could TALK to them if the adult’s mouth was covered.
