FULL STORY: Nothing beats a classic. DirecTV asked 1,000 people to name the Most Iconic Female Protagonist in Film, and they went all the way back to 1939 to choose Dorothy Gale from “The Wizard of Oz”. Well, 7.7% of them did, anyway.
That was enough for the win, but it was close. Princess Leia from “Star Wars” finished a close second, with 7.6%. And she was followed by Ripley from the “Alien” movies, at 6.5%.
Katniss Everdeen from the “Hunger Games” franchise finally pulled us into the new millennium at #4, with 5.7%.
